Chicago Med had characters put their futures on the line this week. Find out what happened in our Chicago Med season 4, episode 14 recap.

The latest Chicago Med may have aired the day before Valentine’s Day, but it certainly wasn’t that romantic.

Wednesday’s episode “Can’t Unring That Bell” saw nurse Maggie Lockwood (Marlyne Barrett) get the spotlight, as she continued her storyline from the previous week trying to save a woman who had come to Chicago Med looking for her help.

Meanwhile, audiences experienced the aftermath of Manstead’s engagement being called off, and the aftermath of Dr. Ava Bekker’s (Norma Kuhling) HIV scare. Neither story involved any sunshine or rainbows.

Will’s increasing problem

Stop us if you’ve heard this one before: Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) has a problem. After he was dumped by his fiancee last week, he found out that his gun was used to shoot a young man in a convenience store robbery.

By pure dumb luck, the victim was brought into Chicago Med under the care of Dr. Connor Rhodes (Colin Donnell). Connor was able to keep him alive but the bullet was still lodged inside, so he had to call neurologist Dr. Sam Abrams (Brennan Brown). While the kid had lost all feeling in his left leg, Abrams told Will that removing the bullet could make him a paraplegic.

When the patient’s parents decided they wanted the bullet removed, Connor could easily figure out that Will had gotten into their ears. Though Will brushed off Connor’s criticism, he changed his own mind and begged Abrams not to go through with the procedure—but that wasn’t Abrams’ choice to make.

Luckily for everyone, the surgery went perfectly. But Abrams became the next person to tell Will to get his act together, and he was much less polite about it. Plus, jealousy reared its head because he saw his ex hugging somebody else. That won’t make Manstead any better.

Will had his own case of the week that paired him with med student Terry McNeal (recurring guest star Colby Lewis). His patient Patrick almost immediately went into cardiac arrest and after a lot of chest compressions, Will finally had to admit he was dead. So it wasn’t a good day at the office for Dr. Halstead, in any respect.
