Chicago PD season 6, episode 14 recap: Ties That Bind

An escape and a secret revealed

Ruzek met Gaines’ friend to hand over the money, but the man was spooked by seeing Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) and fled. A car hit him in the parking lot, killing him and leaving our heroes without a lead on Burgess and a now severely bleeding Upton.

But Burgess was able to free herself, while Antonio learned that local police had traced her call to Ruzek and apparently just now told Intelligence about it. As the team headed into the woods, Burgess snuck out of the basement to start a signal fire.

She returned just in time to brawl with Gaines, getting his gun away from him while Upton was prepared to choke him with her own chains. It wasn’t until Ruzek and Atwater arrived that she let go. Back at the district, Voight was happy his team members had survived but also warned them to keep their baggage at home.

Burgess and Upton finished this Chicago PD episode in the locker room again, this time with the tone completely different (and looking a lot worse for wear). Upton still wanted to talk about Ruzek, and Burgess reluctantly agreed to hear her out over a drink. That’s when Upton explained that serious look on her face from the first part of the episode.

Upton explained that she had dated someone else in another unit, and that everyone assumed she’d earned her last promotion because of him. That’s why she hadn’t gone public with her relationship now, and an understanding Burgess assured her that the two of them were good. Besides, if Blair gets his way, she might have a new boyfriend pretty soon. But how will Chicago PD move forward now?
