What should One Chicago fans learn from this week’s Chicago Med? Look closer at the latest episode with our Chicago Med season 4, episode 15 takeaways.

What did One Chicago fans learn from the latest Chicago Med episode? Here’s what we took away from this week’s installment, “We Hold These Truths.”

“We Hold These Truths” featured a white supremacist who drove his truck through a street fair in hopes of killing as many people as possible before cancer killed him. While the hospital struggled to help his victims, a familiar face from the second and third seasons came back, too.

If you missed any of this week’s episode or just want a refresher on the events that we’re about to discuss, you can catch up with our Chicago Med recap.

Below are our takeaways from this week’s episode:

More from One Chicago Center

1) Will has competition

Sorry, Manstead fans, but this episode proved that the show is taking your pairing in the exact direction we all thought it was: another love triangle!

“We Hold These Truths” opened with Natalie having given Phillip (Ian Harding) her personal cell phone number, which he continued to text at the end of the episode.

It was pretty clear that the show was writing this as more than friendly, when Maggie Lockwood (Marlyne Barrett) urged Natalie to “go to him” and Natalie proudly said she didn’t care about crossing boundaries.

It won’t be a surprise at all if Natalie and Phillip share a kiss or something else romantic in the next episode or two—but can we talk about how that would make it two love triangles that Manstead have been through in four seasons? And that’s not counting the other road blocks like Zoe and Maya Frisch. That’s a lot of competition.

2) Charles has a lot of family issues

Tolerance was a theme in this week’s Chicago Med. There was the fact that the truck driver was an unapologetic racist, and then fans learned that Dr. Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt) had been estranged from his parents for decades after they disapproved of his now ex-wife (guest star Paula Newsome).

That came as a surprise, because it just didn’t seem like a Charles storyline. Not when you recall that he already had a ton of family problems—failed marriage, Robin (Mekia Cox) being estranged from him, and the collapse of his relationship with surrogate daughter Sarah Reese (Rachel DiPillo). But is the show going to draw a line between his problems as a parent, and his issues with his own parent?

And how great was it to see Robin back again? After she was underwritten for much of season 3 when Chicago Med shifted its focus to Dr. Ava Bekker (Norma Kuhling), here’s hoping that bringing her back means she’ll get the closure she deserves—or maybe open the door for her to come back again in future!

3) Choi had an off week

Chicago Med had an incredibly awkward storyline for Dr. Ethan Choi (Brian Tee), involving a gay patient who hit on him and then Terry McNeal (recurring guest star Colby Lewis) revealing that he is also gay. A lot of things didn’t work in this subplot—the patient coming off like a stereotypical gay character, the way it seemed to shoehorn in the reveal about Terry, and the way it made Choi seem intolerant.

Any character on this show would feel out of place here, but particularly Choi, who is normally the most level-headed and open-minded character? This was the same guy who had the storyline of MMA fighters and forgiveness back in season two. It didn’t feel like he’d ever behave this way. If the show was looking for a plotline to facilitate mentioning Terry’s sexuality, this wasn’t it. And the way that it just threw that in there, it didn’t really service that, either.
