Everything we know about Sophia Bush’s pilot Surveillance
Former Chicago PD star Sophia Bush is starring in a new pilot called Surveillance, and here’s everything that’s known so far about the CBS project.
One Chicago fans still miss Sophia Bush as Erin Lindsay on Chicago PD, but the actress has moved on to a new project for CBS called Surveillance.
While audiences will hear whether or not the pilot is picked up in the next few months, here’s all of the details that have been released to date about the project that could bring Sophia Bush back to TV next season.
What’s it about?
Surveillance is a drama about the National Security Agency (NSA). As first reported in September, Sophia Bush stars as Maddy Yardley, who works as the NSA’s Head of Communications. She has to decide between protecting the United States government’s secrets and her own privacy.

Who’s it from?
The series is created by David C. White, who wrote for History‘s scripted historical drama Sons of Liberty. Matt Reeves (FOX‘s The Passage) and Patricia Riggen (FOX’s Proven Innocent) are credited as producers. Riggen is directing the pilot.
How did Sophia Bush get involved?
Bush signed a development deal with studio 20th Century Fox after leaving Chicago PD at the end of season 4. The series is produced by 20th Century Fox.
If the show gets picked up for a full first season, this would be Bush’s first series for CBS since the short-lived sitcom Partners (in 2012).
Who else is in Surveillance?
The series has assembled a sizeable cast since Bush was hired to play the main character six months ago. The biggest names attached are Dennis Haysbert (24, The Unit) as Barry Wilkinson, the NSA Deputy Director who is both Maddy’s boss and father figure, and Oscar nominee Catalina Sandino Moreno (The Bridge) as Natalie Reyes, Maddy’s best friend.
But keep an eye on Allen Leech (Bohemian Rhapsody, Downton Abbey) as Maddy’s husband Scott, who is himself a former CIA operative. Matthew Modine (Proof) is also playing a mysterious figure known only as “Man in a Red Tie.”
What’s going on with the show right now?
Surveillance is not officially happening yet. It has only shot a pilot; CBS hasn’t decided whether or not to order an entire first season. That decision could happen any time between now and May as the networks decide their primetime schedules.
Since it wasn’t announced with the network’s other fall shows, it wouldn’t be premiering in the fall like the One Chicago franchise. It would most likely be a midseason series (so starting in January or later).
But the odds are in its favor; CBS’s production arm, CBS Television Studios, is producing the show with 20th. That means CBS wouldn’t just be airing the show; the company would also have a stake in it creatively. And TV networks tend to prefer series that come from their own studios, because it’s their own product.
So fingers crossed that Sophia Bush has chosen a strong pilot that’d get her back on broadcast TV just a few seasons after she departed Chicago PD.
