Chicago Fire’s Severide and Stella: Should they stay or split?
Why they should break up
If you’re getting sick of the back and forth in Severide and Stella’s relationship, we can’t blame you. Chicago Fire has pulled this relationship in so many directions over the last few seasons that their drama is starting to get tiresome. Audiences know what’s going to happen with Stellaride almost before the characters do.
Remember, this is the duo who hooked up two seasons ago, only to get moved aside when Kelly fell in love with Anna Turner (Charlotte Sullivan) instead. Since then, it’s been a lot of going round in circles. Stella dated Hazmat officer Zach (recurring guest star Daniel di Tomasso) and Severide was jealous. Severide’s ex-girlfriend Renee Royce (Sarah Shahi) came back and Stella got annoyed by it. Then this season it was Tyler and Foster who served as semi-roadblocks.
These two seem to be both overly jealous and overly protective when it comes to each other, yet the show can’t let them stay together, either. If all that’s going to happen between them is a little bit of happiness followed by yet another argument or more angst, that’s not healthy for either of them.
Chicago Fire deserves credit for giving Stellaride, and Stellaride fans, a chance after teasing this ship for a while. But the longer they’re on screen together, the more it’s becoming apparent that they just aren’t built to be together long-term. As much as they care about each other, they may just be better off as friends, if the alternative is both of them being made crazy by the drama of the week.
