Chicago Fire questions to answer: Stella Kidd
Chicago Fire season 7 has unanswered questions, including about Stella Kidd. Here’s what we want to know about Miranda Rae Mayo’s character.
While One Chicago fans wait for the season to resume, we’re passing the time by looking at the characters with the biggest problems to resolve—including Chicago Fire‘s Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo).
We’ll break down Stella’s big issue below, then tell us what you think she should do in the rest of the season in the comments at the bottom of this article.
What’s the problem?
Having broken off her relationship with Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney), Stella is receiving attention from a man she rescued in a fire. But should she—and the One Chicago fans—take this seriously?

What should she do?
Rescues seem to be a popular dating ground for Firehouse 51 this season. First, Joe Cruz (Joe Minoso) met his girlfriend during the crossover event, and now Stella has Keith (guest star Sean Kleier) wanting to date her after she saved his life.
But Stella was almost certainly right when she said this was a rescue crush. What else could this be? The guy knows next to nothing about her—they said just a few words to each other during the rescue and then she told him a little bit more when he came to the firehouse.
However, last fans saw, Stella was agreeing to go on a road trip with Keith. What’s gotten her to change her mind so quickly? Is she equally curious about him? Wanting to move on from Severide that fast? It all feels a little bit wonky.

What does it all mean?
This subplot is still really young, so it could develop into something more or it might not. Based on the limited information viewers have so far, though, it’s difficult to perceive this as any kind of real new love for Stella. Instead, it feels a bit like what’s going over on Chicago Med: a short-term idea meant to create tension between the established couple, in this case, Stellaride.
Audiences can’t take this seriously yet because they know little about Stella’s new love interest. If we’re to believe Keith matters to Stella, first he has to matter to the viewers. So Chicago Fire does not have a lot of time to establish him as a rival, and then obviously have Severide make a play to get her back. This plotline feels like it’s going to be rushed at best.
Maybe it’d be even better if Keith just became a new friend for Stella to lean on. The show needs more friends outside of the firehouse in general, and Stella could certainly use a friendly ear that isn’t going to hit on her (see: Tyler). But whatever she does, she’s not going to have a lot of time to waste.
