Firehouse 51 in general

  • Fire Commissioner Carl Grissom (recurring guest star Gary Cole) returned, seeming to be a changed man. Grissom revealed that his job was under threat, and wanted 51 to help him keep it.
  • After seeing Grissom help the crew with their latest fire call, which you can see in the video further down this article, Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) made an impassioned speech that helped save Grissom’s job.
  • Afterward, he visited his old friend at home for a drink, suggesting that they’ve buried the hatchet.

Relationships

  • Severide and Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer) are now roommates after Casey’s apartment burned down.
  • Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) and Severide are still broken up, with Stella receiving some attention from Keith (guest star Sean Kleier), a man she rescued from a fire.
  • Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer) and Kyle Sheffield (Teddy Sears) are also broken up; Kyle dumped Brett, citing a conflict of interest with his work as chaplain.

Professional changes

  • Casey had another near-death experience, almost being shot in the face while checking out a house after a call. The only reason he didn’t die is because the attacker’s weapon jammed.
  • Christopher Herrmann (David Eigenberg) also felt job stress, causing him to take his anger out on his family. Herrmann apologized, but is he really okay or was that incident a sign of a larger problem?
  • Joe Cruz (Joe Minoso) went undercover and caught a dirty firefighter during the season’s second crossover, but was greatly shaken by the experience, especially after learning the man was murdered. How will he be doing now?
