One Chicago fans are thrilled that Chicago Med is finally new this week, and the episode looks like it has everything that viewers expect from the show in one convenient package.
Tonight’s episode is called “The Space Between Us,” and it’s pretty obvious that’s metaphorical and not physical. The plotlines, as has become a regular habit this season, are each centered on one of the three couples that exist—or right now, don’t exist—on the show.
The “A” story involves April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta) becoming trapped under a car when it crashes through the doors into the Emergency Department. You have to feel for April; she was wounded in “All The Lonely People” and now, seven episodes later, she’s run over by a car.
But, speaking of things we’ve seen before, will this play out like other season 4 storylines where a medical emergency prompts a duo to fix their romantic relationship?

There isn’t such a great outlook for the other two pairs on Chicago Med. Photos from the episode make it clear that Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) and Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto) will have some kind of talk for the first time since she was kissing Phillip (Ian Harding).
To make matters worse, the episode is making them work together again. So will they just have the usual strife of disagreeing over a patient and/or being kind of awkward together? Or is Will going to discover that Natalie has moved on with the exact guy that he was suspicious of in the first place?
Either way, this won’t go well.

Still, they probably have a better shot than the other set of exes who are likewise forced to work together. Dr. Connor Rhodes (Colin Donnell) and Dr. Ava Bekker (Norma Kuhling) have a new case to handle, and Chicago Med fans probably knew they couldn’t avoid each other forever. It’s just a question of how snarky Ava wants to be.
The stories in “The Space Between Us” seem designed to service the ships of Chicago Med, but given that they’re all in states of disrepair and a lot of time has been spent on their issues, it could also be worth it if those pairings get some kind of resolution or clarity. If nothing else, fans will get plenty of drama out of a car plowing through a hospital that’s already been blown up before.
