Chicago Fire exposed child abuse and redecorated Firehouse 51 in Move A Wall. Find out what happened in our Chicago Fire season 7, episode 17 recap.

This week’s Chicago Fire was all about walls—what was behind them, what was on them, and in a way, the metaphorical walls certain people are putting up around themselves.

Wednesday’s episode was appropriately titled “Move A Wall” as Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) did just that during an apartment building fire, and uncovered what she believed to evidence of child endangerment. But could she actually prove anything, or was it just a gut instinct without any evidence?

Meanwhile, Cindy Herrmann (recurring guest star Robyn Coffin) used Firehouse 51’s common room as her new interior design project, which made for a very awkward day at the office for her husband Christopher (David Eigenberg). But that wasn’t Herrmann’s only problem.

“Move A Wall” started with Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer) getting cheered up by her roommates Joe Cruz and Otis (Joe Minoso and Yuri Sardarov), who were really trying to get her over her breakup. If only we all had friends that enthusiastic about making us feel better.

In other home-related news, Herrmann interrupted Firehouse 51’s morning briefing to tell the team that his wife Cindy wanted to redesign the common room as she tried to restart her former career in interior design. Everyone was skeptical, but their objections were cut off by a call for an apartment fire.

On the scene, Herrmann got chewed out by Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer) for having a hose line across the street, which led to it being run over by an unobservant SUV – and Ritter (recurring guest star Daniel Kyri) being yanked backward, possibly injuring his shoulder in the process.

Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) was told by the apartment’s occupant that she’d started the blaze by leaving her soldering iron on, but when Stella Kidd went to check on her neighbors, she found a suspicious crawl space in the wall of their apartment that looked like someone was being kept inside there.
