Another sad ending

Alyssa had managed to convince herself to cooperate, though, and while Chicago PD didn’t show her pointing out Lamar, the show cutting to Voight and company coming to get him implied she must have. After deploying a flash-bang grenade, the whole unit raided Lamar’s hangout…where they ran into Eric, who unsurprisingly had lied this whole time and helped his friend escape. So Voight decided to repay his attitude by having him, and the rest of his friends, arrested.

With the 48-hour clock winding down, Voight dragged Eric down to the basement. He said that he knew Eric didn’t order the shooting, based on Eric’s reaction, but he needed Eric to give him Lamar. Again, Chicago PD cut away, but then there were a ton of cops coming to visit Lamar’s house. Voight and Ruzek found him sleeping in the basement, next to his gun.

Price and Kelton were waiting for the good news when it all seemed to blow over, with a generic ASA there to talk about an indictment. Kelton and Price even shared an awkward handshake. But wait – there were still 15 minutes left in the episode! So what was going to go wrong? Would it be Alyssa kept in protective custody, at the same motel Atwater always seems to take people to?

Probably, since Kelton immediately called a press conference where he announced to everyone that there was a witness. Way to rack up those political points at everyone else’s expense, you narcissist. This prompted Atwater and Upton to send Alyssa to Detroit, but only after she was ticked at Upton for essentially upending her entire life and the lives of her orphaned nieces.

She took the news better than Kelton, who didn’t understand how he’d undermined the case. Voight gave him a piece of his mind and would probably have given him a lot more if Price hadn’t stopped him. Eddie and Eric were ticked off, too, and understandably so since Voight had chosen to destroy a case. Voight thought it’d be okay, though, since he could tell both of them where to find Lamar and take care of him themselves.

To get the cops off his back, Eric nonverbally agreed to take out Lamar. Once again Chicago PD‘s “ends justify the means” philosophy capped another episode, though it’s up to each fan whether or not you agree with it.
