Chicago Med’s baby reveal is One Chicago moment of the week
Chicago Med bringing back Emily Choi, with her baby, is One Chicago Center’s moment of the week from Chicago Med season 4, episode 18.
This week’s One Chicago Moment of the Week honors go to Chicago Med, for resurrecting Choi’s family drama by having his sister Emily and her son return to Chicago!
There have been a lot of surprising moments during Chicago Med season 4, but this was one that didn’t quite pop up on fans’ radar. Not only that, but it’s a scene that leaves audiences wondering why it happened and what’s going to happen next.
It’s not entirely shocking that Emily Choi (Arden Cho) has come back from Las Vegas. Deciding to start a new life with somebody who didn’t tell you he had a whole separate family is not the kind of choice that usually ends well.
And as last season made clear a couple of times, Emily doesn’t have the best judgment about a lot of things in her life.

But this scene is interesting to consider on a number of levels if you’ve been following her story since she was introduced on Chicago Med last season.
For instance, what does it say about how far Emily’s relationship with April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta) has come? April broke up with Ethan at the end of last season over his wanting to bring Emily home; now she’s willing to open her place up to Emily and her child, and doesn’t even tell Ethan about it.

And of course, there’s the fact that the Bernie situation continues to be a mess. Fans were probably happy to see the back of him, and to hear that he’s gone back to his wife—but Emily still thinks that everything is fine—is the kind of plot development that makes a viewer want to groan in frustration.
But most importantly, viewers have to ask why is Chicago Med bringing this storyline back? Is it just for dramatic value, or is there going to be another ongoing subplot about Emily and Ethan in the remaining episodes of this season?
Usually when a TV show has a recurring character pop up again it’s for more than just one episode, and with so much focus on Ethan and April’s relationship this season, it’s hard to figure out how Emily fits into what the series is doing right now. So there’s almost certainly something else going on here, and there’s not a lot of time to uncover what.
But this moment definitely had fans talking for a number of reasons, and that’s what makes it stand out in a busy week. Now let’s see what Chicago Med does with it before the season ends next month!
