Chicago PD star Jason Beghe is One Chicago Center’s performer of the week for his work as Hank Voight in Chicago PD season 6, episode 18.

This week’s Performer of the Week honors go to Jason Beghe from Chicago PD, for his portrayal of Hank Voight in Wednesday’s episode “This City.”

“This City” wasn’t an exceptional Chicago PD episode; while it was entertaining to watch, it played out exactly how One Chicago fans would expect an installment of the show to play out. But in turn, that also meant Jason Beghe doing exactly what Hank Voight does.

What put the show on the map in the first place was Voight, being a no-nonsense, hard-charging cop who was willing to break the rules in order to uphold the law. And he continued to do that in a big way this week.

There were plenty of moments for Jason Beghe to chew the scenery throughout the episode, and remind One Chicago viewers why he’s one of the most recognizable actors in the franchise.

There was Voight easily threatening a teenage gang leader with a razorblade, like this was something he did every Tuesday (maybe he did).

Or Voight intentionally undermining his own murder prosecution in order to protect the life of a witness, then chewing out Superintendent Brian Kelton (guest star John C. McGinley) for jeopardizing her safety.

Or last but certainly not least, Voight enabling another murder by making sure the aforementioned teenager went and took care of the now-released killer—whether he wanted to or not.

Beghe was excellent in all these scenes, delivering the amount of menace or frustration or cynicism that they all required. Voight is a character who you can love or hate, or maybe a little of both, as fans know he routinely does things that are morally questionable. But one thing that never changes is how watchable he is.

Whether he’s getting in the face of a teenager who thinks he’s much more important than he is, or delivering a bit of a monologue about the state of the gangs in this particular neighborhood, Beghe was reliably great throughout this Chicago PD episode. He reminded us how much Voight is larger than life, and how if you’re going to try and keep up with him, you’d better bring your “A” game.
