Chicago PD alum Christine Swanson is returning to the Dick Wolf universe, as she directs tonight’s new episode of FBI.

While Chicago PD isn’t on this week, fans can watch one of the show’s directors at work when she steps behind the camera on another Dick Wolf series.

Christine Swanson is the director for tonight’s FBI episode, “Conflict of Interest,” which premieres at 9 p.m. on CBS.

She previously helmed one of Chicago PD‘s best episodes this season, “Black and Blue,” that aired on Nov. 14 and repeated on March 6. That’s the one in which Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) is sent undercover to investigate a gang-related shooting.

Swanson is a graduate of NBC’s Female Forward, a program that supports female directors who want to bring their talents into television.

For One Chicago fans, this is news that’s well worth celebrating. Swanson’s directing on Chicago PD was great; she put the episode together perfectly, while also casting Milauna Jemai Jackson to play the role of Laila—a casting decision that was critical to the success of the story.

Plus, the fact that she’s moved on to another Dick Wolf series is encouraging. It means that fans aren’t the only people who were impressed with her work, and allows for the possibility that we could see her come back to the One Chicago franchise for another episode or more in the future.

A good director can do a lot to elevate an episode, and Christine Swanson was an excellent addition to Chicago PD, so hopefully her continued work in the Wolf universe means that she’ll get a chance to come back.

What can fans expect to see from her tonight? “Conflict of Interest” is kind of similar to “Black and Blue,” in that it has some personal subplots for a few of FBI‘s characters. Watch a sneak peek now by playing the video below, and then tune into the full episode tonight on CBS!
