Chicago Fire alum Charlie Barnett has booked a recurring role in You season 2, continuing his recent association with Netflix.

Get ready to see even more of Charlie Barnett, as the former Chicago Fire star has signed up for his third Netflix series in the past year.

The streaming service has announced that Barnett will play a recurring role in the second season of You, the thriller that’s moving to Netflix after originally airing on Lifetime.

You focuses on the sociopath Joe Goldberg (played by Gossip Girl‘s Penn Badgley) and the fixations he develops on various women, going to terrible—and violent—lengths to be with them.

In You season 2, after murdering his original love interest Guinevere Beck (Elizabeth Lail), Joe has moved to Los Angeles. There he meets chef Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti) and his obsession rears its head again.

Charlie Barnett will play Love’s best friend and her closest confidant, Gabe, who works in acupuncture and enjoys the use of psychedelic drugs. Presumably he’ll get pulled into the web of psychodrama that Joe will bring into her life.

What’s more interesting for One Chicago fans is that this continues Barnett’s ties to Netflix—and a recent upswing in his career after a series of short-lived TV roles.

After his character Peter Mills was written out of Chicago Fire in the third season, Barnett ended up in a pair of one-season shows: ABC‘s Secrets & Lies (an anthology series that was cancelled after his season anyway), and The CW‘s Valor (which suffered from low ratings through most of its single season).

But now he’s got a trio of projects, all on the same platform. Barnett had a major role in Russian Doll, which is currently streaming on Netflix, and he’ll be seen next month in the Tales of the City reboot. It’s good to see him finally catch a break, especially when so many fans still miss him on Chicago Fire.

The You season 2 premiere date hasn’t been announced yet, so fans will have to wait to find out when they can see him in his latest role. But this will certainly be a much darker, and maybe even more short-lived part than playing Peter Mills.
