What should fans watch for in tonight’s Chicago Fire? Get ready for Until The Weather Breaks with our Chicago Fire season 7, episode 19 preview.

A storm blows through Chicago in this week’s Chicago Fire, but how seriously should viewers take the bad weather? It’s hard to tell.

Wednesday’s installment “Until The Weather Breaks” is set against the backdrop of a fierce storm that pours down rain and knocks out the power around Firehouse 51. But if that sounds a little bit like deja vu, you’d be forgiven.

A lot of TV shows have done recent episodes with bad weather and/or power outages, including FOX‘s The Resident a few weeks ago and NBC‘s own New Amsterdam on April 9. It seems to be the new “in” plot idea.

Plus, this is Chicago Fire; there’s a bad weather episode every season, considering the cold and bitter weathers that the city of Chicago is famous for.

So what’s going to separate “Until The Weather Breaks” from similar stories? Maybe it’s the hour’s odd subplot, in which Emily Foster (Annie Ilonzeh) and Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) get into a fight regarding Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney).

It’s odd because the series seemed to torpedo any idea of a connection between Foster and Severide earlier in the season, when Stella got overly jealous of Severide becoming friends with Foster.

So now why are they arguing? Is it because of Foster herself, and Stella not liking her proximity to Severide again? Or is it because Foster is trying to give some relationship advice to Stella, the same way she gave unsolicited advice to Severide?

Either way, it’s going to be awkward and until we see the episode and the context that it brings, it’s hard to understand where this plot point is coming from.

The main plot of “Until The Weather Breaks” involves a child who decides to hide out at Firehouse 51 (here’s how he gets there). Why did he come up with this idea? Is he hiding from somebody?

The show did a children-in-peril storyline with the earlier season 7 episode “Move A Wall,” so is this another case of a kid being mistreated, or is there something else going on here? Who knows, maybe Severide can bond with the child like he did with the neglected son of the guy whose boat he briefly worked on?

It’s not necessarily an attention-grabbing plot, but maybe this limited premise will allow for some strong character moments for Chicago Fire‘s heroes. Watch a clip from the episode by playing the video below and judge for yourself.
