Chicago Med season 4, episode 19 recap: Never Let You Go
Goodwin makes a stand
David acquiesces, so Connor has Lily moved to the hybrid OR while Charles is left to keep the CPD commander from doing any more stupid stuff. Because on Chicago Med, the only Chicago PD officers who don’t seem to be bull-headed are the ones from Chicago PD. He wants to bring an armored vehicle through the ED, while a still locked-up Choi tries to walk April through treating Joshua, whose lung is collapsing.
Goodwin puts her life in Charles’ hands, and Charles is able to help her bring Cornelius through without another incident. That’s good news for Connor, who has no idea since he, Will, Natalie and Maggie are all in the hybrid OR looking at Lily’s ruptured uterus. They do get the baby out, but they may lose her – which David doesn’t understand is not up to them.
Chicago Med cuts over to Choi telling April how to insert a chest tube into a panicking Joshua, which stabilizes him for the time being, before showing us that Lily’s child is stable and Connor has been able to stop the bleeding. David reiterates to Goodwin that he’s taking Lily and the baby out of the hospital, even though she just lost a ton of blood and therefore shouldn’t be moving at all. But even mostly out of it, Lily still doesn’t want to go anywhere with her crazed ex. “It’s over, David,” she insists.
Since he can’t have Lily, David decides that he’s going to abduct the baby instead. Goodwin refuses to hand him the child despite his threats to kill everyone, including her. But confronting her means that he walks into the SWAT team’s kill zone, and the cops shoot him before they swarm into the ED. In true Chicago Med fashion, a good dozen people watch as Connor pronounces David dead. Not that there was much doubt since the bullet hit him in the neck.
Some time later, after he’s had a chance to clean up and calm down, Connor visits his recovering father. He also hears that Ava performed Cornelius’s surgery, which does not make him feel good. But Ava insists that she saved his father’s life. We’ll let Chicago Med fans decide how confident they are about her handiwork, especially considering the patient.
Speaking of fathers, Lily’s dad is okay too, and finds out from Natalie that his granddaughter’s adoptive mom disappeared after all the chaos. Lily, though, has decided she at least wants to hold her baby before they look for someone else to adopt him. If she lets the kid be adopted at all, since she’s calling him “mine.”
Natalie leaves them alone to find Will, telling him that she knew he stayed in the ED to protect her. Both of them are met by Ingrid Lee (guest star Anna Enger), who has come to the hospital worried about Will. That prompts Natalie to make a very quick exit, while Chicago Med ends with Goodwin surveying the wreckage of her ED and getting a well-deserved hug from Caroline Charles.
