Chicago Fire and Chicago Med’s Jeff Hephner is starring in Hallmark’s Love Takes Flight this weekend; watch a trailer and behind the scenes video.

One Chicago fan favorite Jeff Hephner is front and center this weekend in Love Takes Flight, the latest Hallmark Hall of Fame movie that premieres Saturday on Hallmark Channel.

Love Takes Flight follows Hallmark’s traditional blend of romance with family drama. Jeff plays Charley Andrews, a tenacious medical helicopter pilot who starts a new job at the hospital run by Lizzie Bowman (Nikki DeLoach, who previously guest-starred opposite Chicago Justice alum Philip Winchester in an episode of The Player).

But Charley’s arrival comes with a catch—Lizzie didn’t know that he’s the son of Walter, the widower that her daughter Quinn recently befriended. While Charley has a chance to reconnect with his father, it’s no spoiler to say that a romantic connection also begins to develop between him and the divorced Lizzie.

Chicago Med fans or people who’ve followed Jeff’s career might find this particular character a bit entertaining, since it brings him back into the medical world somewhat. Not only did he portray a medical student when he brought Jeff Clarke over from Chicago Fire, but he also played a hospital administrator on the CBS series Code Black.

Now he’s trying out yet another kind of work in the medical field, and as anyone who’s seen him on either One Chicago show knows, he’s got the personality and charm to make this movie shine.

Especially paired with DeLoach, who’s a veteran of several Hallmark productions, he’s going to be great—and Love Takes Flight might be a welcome uplift after this week’s particularly grim Chicago episodes.

This is Jeff Hephner’s second Hallmark Hall of Fame movie; he previously portrayed legendary author Pat Conroy in the adaptation of Conroy’s memoir The Water is Wide back in 2006.

He’s not the only One Chicago alum with Hallmark ties, either; his Chicago Med co-star Torrey DeVitto appeared in the company’s Christmas romance Best Christmas Party Ever in 2014.
