Chicago PD having Ray Price confess to murder is One Chicago Center’s moment of the week from Chicago PD season 6, episode 19.

This week’s One Chicago Moment of the Week honors go to Chicago PD, for finally turning up the heat on its season-long storyline—in a way most One Chicago fans probably never saw coming.

The mayoral race has been dragging out slowly for most of Chicago PD season 6, with a few plot twists, but in general it’s felt like it could move a lot faster. “What Could Have Been” delivered the gut punch this arc needed, but it wasn’t the one we expected or wanted.

Viewers were shocked Wednesday when Alicia Price (Nicki Micheaux), the wife of Alderman Ray Price (Wendell Pierce), admitting to murdering two people in order to protect her family. But the real surprise came at the episode’s end.

Instead of Alicia being led away in handcuffs, it was Ray confessing to the killings in a video that Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) presented to the new Assistant State’s Attorney.

Wait, what?

It was enough of a bombshell that Alicia would kill two people, but audiences have seen that before, the mother so desperate to keep her family out of trouble that she does the unthinkable.

Voight, in turn, allowed Ray to protect his family—but it had huge consequences not only for him but for Chicago PD as a whole.

Not only is Ray Price doing seven years in prison for crimes he didn’t commit, but that ends his campaign to be mayor of Chicago.

So is Voight and Price’s nemesis Brian Kelton (John C. McGinley) now running unopposed and we’re going to have another “bad guy in power” story, similar to the Commissioner Grissom arc last season on Chicago Fire? It’s been done before, and the idea of Kelton in power is kind of scary.

Or will Chicago PD introduce a third candidate, who hasn’t been seen or even mentioned before, in the final three episodes to steal the office out from under him? That’d be hard to figure out, since there’s no foundation for it, but it’s possible.

And this also means One Chicago is saying goodbye to an excellent actor for a while. With Price’s storyline at an end, the show will lose Wendell Pierce. That’s not entirely unexpected, as Pierce is such an in-demand actor that he was similarly written out of USA‘s Suits, but it’s still sad because he was the best part of this political saga. The series won’t be the same without him.

At least he exited with one of his best performances. Play the video below to see the final scene between Price and Voight, and let us know what you think of Price’s choice to confess and what it will do to Chicago PD by heading to the comments at the bottom of this article.
