The One Chicago franchise will not air on May 1 as Chicago Fire, Chicago PD and Chicago Med are being preempted by other NBC programming.

One Chicago viewers will have to miss their favorite shows this week. NBC will not be airing any of the three One Chicago series on Wednesday, May 1 to free up the evening for other programming.

Chicago Med, Chicago Fire and Chicago PD will all step aside so that the network can air coverage of this year’s Billboard Music Awards. The music awards show will run all three hours Wednesday night, starting at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

The Billboard Music Awards are a major property for NBC, which took over broadcasting the event from rival network ABC last year. NBC signed a multi-year deal with Dick Clark Productions, which produces the ceremony, in November 2017 to become the new TV network.

They also have a cross-promotional interest as Kelly Clarkson, who features as a coach on NBC’s singing competition The Voice, is returning to host the awards for the second year.

Of course, none of this matters to fans of the One Chicago franchise, who are just disappointed that they won’t be able to see their shows.

Chicago PD, Chicago Med and Chicago Fire all returned last week after another multi-week hiatus. The programs didn’t air new episodes between April 3 and April 24.

Before that, they were also absent or in repeats for multiple weeks in March.

The good news for fans is that this is the last scheduled delay. With their season finales ahead in less than a month, all of the Chicago shows are expected to air without further interruption for the remainder of the season.
