The One Chicago franchise is staying put, as NBC’s fall schedule keeps Chicago Fire, Chicago PD and Chicago Med together in the 2019-2020 season.

One Chicago fans are getting more “Chicago Wednesdays” next season.

After making a surprising move by putting all three shows on the same night last May, the NBC fall schedule is keeping the entire One Chicago franchise together for the 2019-2020 TV season.

The network confirmed over the weekend that Chicago Med will continue to air on Wednesdays at 8 p.m, followed by Chicago Fire at 9 p.m. and Chicago PD at 10 p.m.

The new season will begin in September, though an official premiere date hasn’t been announced yet.

The news was expected, given the TV ratings after the move. Though some One Chicago viewers were skeptical of a three-hour commitment, they’ve been turning up in droves every Wednesday night.

Both Chicago Med and Chicago Fire have experienced significant ratings gains this season; though Chicago PD hasn’t risen that much, it’s still been on par with the solid numbers it was doing the year before.

The block programming has also given NBC an easy win on most Wednesdays. The most recent ratings had Chicago Med as the most-watched broadcast TV show last Wednesday, followed by Fire in second.

Even though the series have lost small portions of viewers week over week, they’re still bringing in the majority of eyeballs—so there’s no reason for NBC to mess with what clearly works.

Aside from the numbers, One Chicago Wednesdays have also been great for NBC from a promo standpoint. They’ve been able to constantly push the three series as one unified block—they now sometimes just use one promo spot for the entire trio—and crossovers can now be done on one night, instead of taking over half the week.

There have been some weird quirks where a character goes through something on one show and seems perfectly fine an hour later, but the creative speed bumps have been few and far between (and aren’t what a network generally considers in its fall schedule).

The only concern was if viewers would be willing to watch for three hours straight, and they have not only proven they will, but there are more of them tuned in than there were before. Everything about this schedule switch has paid off, so Wednesdays will continue to belong to Chicago and its fans next fall.
