Chicago Med guest star Ian Harding cast in Amazon pilot Good People
Chicago Med recurring guest star Ian Harding has been cast in the Amazon comedy pilot Good People, so will Phillip Davis exit Chicago Med?
Ian Harding might be checking out of Chicago Med soon. The actor has landed a main cast role in Good People, a comedy pilot for Amazon Prime Video.
Good People follows three generations of women who all work at the same college. Harding, who recurred as Dr. Natalie Manning’s (Torrey DeVitto) boyfriend Phillip Davis in Chicago Med season 4, is portraying another college employee.
His character Will has a “complicated past” with co-worker Hazel (Whitney Cummings, Whitney), according to Deadline, but still helps her try to figure out the college’s politics.
Cummings and Lee Daniels (Empire) are the co-creators of the sitcom, which also features Martin Short, Lisa Kudrow and Greg Kinnear.

For One Chicago fans, though, the question isn’t about Ian Harding’s next role but his current one. His Chicago Med character Phillip was introduced as the husband of a pregnant patient, but not long after his wife died, he started flirting with Natalie.
Last month’s season finale included Phillip deciding to propose marriage to Natalie, but Agent Ingrid Lee (Anna Enger Ritch) interrupted just before he could pop the question—and the episode ended as Natalie was seriously injured in a car accident.

It’s a safe bet that Harding will be in at least next season’s premiere—if it picks up immediately after or close to the accident, it wouldn’t make any sense for Phillip not to be around as his girlfriend is rushed into the Emergency Department. But past that, it’s anyone’s guess.
While he and Natalie are together at the moment, having her rush out to talk to ex-fiance Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) about his feelings for her suggests that Chicago Med isn’t done with the Manstead ship yet. It would be no surprise at all if Natalie turns down Phillip’s proposal and says goodbye to him instead—presuming that she recovers from her injuries.
And considering that the whole Phillip and Natalie relationship hasn’t gone over well with a lot of fans, either Manstead shippers or people who just find it uncomfortable that he so quickly hooked up with her after his wife died, it wouldn’t be a huge loss for the show. Some plots work better than others, and this one hasn’t really worked.
It’ll be interesting to see Harding in a comedy, though, and Good People combining Lee Daniels and Whitney Cummings means it won’t be an ordinary sitcom. We’ll keep you posted if we learn more about Ian Harding’s newest project.
