Why an FBI and One Chicago crossover could be worth watching
Dick Wolf is discussing a potential One Chicago and FBI crossover, and there are several reasons why the cross-network event could be a success.
One Chicago fans were surprised this week when Dick Wolf revealed that he’s interested in having his new FBI franchise potentially cross over with One Chicago. It sounded like something huge to undertake, especially since the two franchises air on different networks!
But there are reasons why the idea actually makes a fair bit of sense. Assuming that NBC and CBS are able to work out the logistics of having Wolf’s two worlds cross over, One Chicago fans should have reasons to be excited about the special event.
The biggest argument for making a crossover happen is the actors. FBI features some great stars in its main cast, who would bring something interesting to One Chicago. Can you imagine how cool it would be to see Jeremy Sisto come into the Chicago universe?
Sisto’s character, Special Agent in Charge Jubal Valentine, would be an interesting match for Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) on Chicago PD. He’d certainly have something to say about Voight’s way of policing.

Or if the crossover is with Chicago Med, there’d be the potential for to put him in a scene with Sharon Goodwin. Sisto and S. Epatha Merkerson worked together in three seasons of Law & Order, so it’d be vastly entertaining if the writers had their current characters run into one another.
Missy Peregrym and Zeeko Zaki have been solid in their FBI roles, and Chicago PD hasn’t had any kind of technical expert in its cast since getting rid of Sam Hunt’s Mouse, so Ebonee Noel‘s character Kristen Chazal would easily have a place in any crossover, too.

The proposed team-up also has potential in terms of story. If it does involve the Intelligence Unit, since Chicago PD has previously crossed over with Law & Order: SVU, there’s already history between One Chicago and New York law enforcement. And it’d be a chance to show FBI agents in a different light within the Chicago universe.
When the Bureau has shown up, it’s either been as some sort of road block for the cops to have to argue with or work around, or the recent Chicago Med storyline where agent Ingrid Lee (played by Anna Enger Ritch) went from ordering Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) around to having a crush on him.
They’ve never been fully developed as characters, because the shows aren’t about them. So this would be a chance to see FBI characters who are three-dimensional and get to be heroes, rather than getting in the heroes’ way.
Plus, don’t forget that Erin Lindsay (Sophia Bush) is now working for the Bureau in New York, so there could be a mention of how she’s doing now—or maybe a surprise cameo?
Last but not least, having an FBI and One Chicago crossover is just good business for Dick Wolf, NBC and CBS. Wolf gets to pair some of his highest-rated shows together. The One Chicago series routinely win Wednesdays for NBC, and FBI has even higher ratings for CBS, having had more than nine million people watching live a few times this season.
But they don’t necessarily appeal to the same audience. CBS tends to skew older in its viewership; the season finale of FBI had a 0.8 share amongst adults 18-49, while the One Chicago finales had shares between 0.9 and 1.1 in the same demographic. So a crossover could bring new viewers to both franchises.
Plus, any event would have not one but two networks promoting it. NBC already does tremendous promotion for every One Chicago crossover; imagine that happening plus extra advertising on CBS. If properly planned out, this is something that would generate a huge amount of eyeballs, and that is ultimately what Dick Wolf wants to do—score big ratings and get people talking.
While an FBI crossover is still very much in development, and may not happen at all, One Chicago viewers have plenty of reasons to look forward to it if it comes to pass.
