The Code, starring Chicago Med’s Ato Essandoh, returns to CBS

THE CODE will have a special premiere on Tuesday, April 9 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) before it moves into its regular Monday time period on April 15 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT), after MAGNUM P.I. completes its season order. THE CODE is a drama about the military's brightest minds who take on our country's toughest legal challenges, inside the courtroom and out, in the only law office in the world where every attorney is trained as a prosecutor, a defense lawyer, an investigator - and a Marine. The Code returns to CBS tonight, so watch a preview for the new episode of the series that stars Chicago Med alum Ato Essandoh.

The Code has returned! After Ato Essandoh‘s series was surprisingly taken off the CBS schedule earlier this month, it’s back quicker than you think—and we’ve got a preview of the new episode you can watch!

It was a surprise when CBS decided to remove the show in June, especially since the series had a strong debut in its Tuesday “sneak preview” between two of the NCIS shows (in the time slot that ironically belongs to Dick Wolf‘s FBI).

But after ratings slid a bit in the show’s regular Monday night slot, the Chicago Med actor’s new series found itself taking an unexpected break, which ends this Monday, July 1 at the normal time of 9 p.m. ET/PT.

The next episode is called “Smoke-Pit,” and though it’s not focused on Ato Essandoh’s character Major Trey Ferry, that might be a good thing. According to CBS’s official synopsis, this one will be a huge headache for some of his co-workers.

The plot focuses on Trey’s usual partner, Captain John “Abe” Abraham (Luke Mitchell), as he looks into a case with Lt. Harper Li (Phillipa Soo).

The two suspect a Marine Corps recruiter of massive misconduct, but their plans for prosecution hit a snag when their star witness decides that they have no intention of testifying.

Will they be able to find another way to get a guilty verdict? Or will Trey or someone else have to step in to help close the case?

There’s more good news coming, too. Following the airing of this episode, the remaining three episodes of The Code season 1 are expected to air without any further interruption over the next three weeks, leading up to the season finale later in July.

Hopefully, Chicago Med fans who enjoyed Ato Essandoh’s work as Dr. Isidore Latham can help get the live ratings up to support his current project and get it renewed for a second season. It’s the last big CBS series on the bubble, so it could use our help.

Check out a preview for “Smoke-Pit” by playing the video below, then make sure that you’re tuned in when The Code season 1 returns on Monday at 9 p.m. on CBS.
