Chicago Fire’s Charlie Barnett headed to Arrow season 8

Chicago Fire alum Charlie Barnett is the latest actor to join Arrow, and will be featured as a series regular in Arrow season 8.

Another One Chicago alum is participating in Arrow season 8. Charlie Barnett was announced as the latest Arrow series regular during the CW show’s appearance at San Diego Comic-Con.

Barnett, who previously starred as firefighter Peter Mills on Chicago Fire, is going to play one of the sons of main character John Diggle (David Ramsey). His character, John Diggle Jr., appears in the future.

He’s the leader of the Deathstroke Gang, which puts him into conflict with several of the show’s other children of superheroes, including Mia Smoak (Katherine McNamara) and Connor Hawke (Joseph David-Jones).

It marks the first time Charlie Barnett has been seen on The CW since the network cancelled his military drama Valor last May.

But after appearing in a few short-lived shows, he’s experienced a massive career upswing recently. He is a main cast member on Netflix‘s Emmy-nominated Russian Doll, and is also in two other Netflix series, Tales of the City and You.

Barnett is one of several new series regulars who have been added for Arrow season 8, as the popular series comes to an end. Also hired or promoted for the final season are David-Jones, McNamara, and Ben Lewis.

He’s also the third One Chicago alumni who will make an appearance on Arrow this season, which makes the series must-watch TV for fans of our favorite NBC franchise when it returns Tuesday, Oct. 12.

Earlier this month, the network revealed that former Chicago Med star Colin Donnell will reprise his role as Tommy Merlyn at some point during the last episodes. Donnell has been filming his last guest appearance in July.

Josh Segarra, who previously played Justin Voight on Chicago PD, has also been recalled for one more appearance as Adrian Chase, better known as the villain Prometheus. Both actors were seen in a clip reel that The CW released publicly during Comic-Con weekend; you can watch it by playing the video below.

There hasn’t been a glimpse of Charlie Barnett’s character yet, but since he’s the only one who is a series regular, expect to see a lot more of him when Arrow season 8 kicks off in October at 9 p.m.
