What happened

Hailey Upton is no longer the newbie of the group, and Chicago PD season 6 showed many different sides to her that we hadn’t gotten to see before. At the beginning of the season, Hailey really came into her own in the Intelligence Unit, utilizing her empathy and strength on the job. We saw her illicit a confession from a suspect by bonding over familial abuse; by contrast, she was quick to go undercover to catch hardened criminals.

Her personal life was also in the spotlight, as she hooked up with Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) at the start of the season after almost losing her partner Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) in “Endings.” The middle of the season saw Hailey really be a shoulder for her partner to lean on, while she also tried to balance her new relationship with Ruzek.

While she wasn’t featured as much individually during the second half of the season, she is one half of Upstead – which had a few sweet moments in their partnership. Audiences also got to learn a little bit more about Hailey during these conversational moments, like how she deals with bad days, or how much she cares about doing the right thing.

The end of the season dealt Hailey a few bad hands: her relationship with Ruzek came to a halt, she was kidnapped, she was shot at while doing surveillance, and as for her career or current partnership per the season finale? It’s all up in the air.
