Chicago Med season 5 could add these actors
By Kari Highman
With Chicago Med adding new doctors, here are five actors who’d fit right in if the show keeps expanding its cast for Chicago Med season 5.
The staff of Chicago Med is turning over. Dominic Rains has been added to the cast for the new season, while fans know that the Chicago Med season 5 premiere will be the last time that we see Dr. Connor Rhodes (Colin Donnell) and Dr. Ava Bekker (Norma Kuhling), both of whom were let go from the series in April.
That leaves some vacancies to fill, and the producers have shown a willingness to add at least one new cast member. So if they’re going to replace characters or bring in fresh faces this season, we have compiled a short list of actors and actresses who would be excellent additions to the staff of One Chicago’s busiest hospital.
Shane West
Shane West first rose to fame on the acclaimed NBC series ER, where he played Dr. Ray Barnett. His character was a diligent doctor who lived a rockstar lifestyle. The contrast of Ray’s day job to his night life was quite interesting to see play out onscreen, and it allowed West to tap into his own musical background—when he wasn’t acting, he was the lead singer of punk rock band Jonny Was!
His versatility would make him an asset for Chicago Med. He’s played many different roles, and has starred in everything from romantic comedies to dramatic TV. As mentioned above, he’s got more than one talent, and coincidentally also looks similar to former Med doctor Connor Rhodes (Colin Donnell). He’d be excellent in anything Chicago Med needs him to do, while being a known name to anyone who’s been watching NBC medical dramas.
While any character who joins the show wouldn’t directly be replacing Connor, if anyone needed to fill the big shoes that Donnell left behind, Shane West is a definite possibility. He has experience in the genre, and would be someone the series could market to add excitement for the fifth season.
Then there’s this story point: with Connor being gone, there’s not an attending trauma surgeon in the hospital anymore. Shane could portray a new hire for that department, and that would make for an easy segue into the team. After all, Connor was introduced by literally riding into the ED on a gurney before anyone knew that he worked there.
