Chicago Fire star Joe Minoso to recur in Get Shorty season 3
Chicago Fire’s Joe Minoso will have a recurring role in Get Shorty season 3; find out who he’s playing and what it means for his role on Chicago Fire.
Joe Minoso will be branching out beyond Chicago Fire this season.
The actor has been cast in a recurring role for the upcoming third season of EPIX‘s Get Shorty. Deadline reported the casting on Wednesday, just less than a month before Minoso will return as Joe Cruz on Chicago Fire.
Get Shorty is a black comedy series inspired by the Elmore Leonard novel of the same name. The show centers on Miles Daly (Chris O’Dowd from Girls), a career criminal who tries to go straight by becoming a movie producer.
In the third season, according to EPIX’s press release, “Miles embraces more ruthless methods as he settles scores and attempts to climb the Hollywood ladder.”

Joe Minoso’s character Hector is a Los Angeles gang leader whose path crosses with Miles and his friends during the season.
So the question naturally is, what does that mean for Cruz in Chicago Fire season 8?
While no official word has been released, there’s also no reason for One Chicago fans to panic. It’s entirely possible that Minoso can film both shows.
Other actors have balanced two roles, including Fire alum Melissa Ponzio, who was promoted to series regular for the final season of MTV‘s Teen Wolf but still appeared as Donna Robbins-Boden.
It’s also important to note two things: the term “recurring” is used more loosely now than it was a few years ago. Technically, a recurring guest star can be anyone who appears in as few as two or three episodes.

And since Cruz is one of the more supporting characters on Chicago Fire, it’s much easier for Minoso to have less screen time in an episode or miss one if necessary. So that gives him the flexibility to pursue other roles, which he’s doing now—playing someone completely different from Joe Cruz.
Get Shorty season 3 won’t premiere until Sunday, Oct. 6 at 9 p.m. on EPIX. If you’re not familiar with the show, a behind the scenes look is below. Meanwhile, Joe Minoso will appear in the Fire season 8 premiere on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 9 p.m. on NBC.
