What should happen

Apologies to the Chexton fans out there, but we’re going to suggest pumping the brakes on their renewed romance for Chicago Med season 5. The idea of April being pregnant really doesn’t add anything to the show. It’s too fast for a couple that just got back together, and that’s before one considers that April had a miscarriage in season 2. Unless the writers are going to address that, it’s not worth it; a baby shouldn’t be introduced as a gimmick.

Plus, just look at Owen Manning to see how this show struggles to fit in families. Natalie’s son has basically become non-existent while the show focuses on her love life; he’s appeared maybe three times over the last two seasons. So if April and Choi have a baby, will we actually see them being parents, or will their child get sidelined, too? There’s just too many pitfalls to go forward with this concept.

That being said, Chexton being back together should provide some stability in Choi’s personal life so we’re hoping for more focus on his professional life. He’s a fantastic doctor and often emerges as a leader in the most high-pressure situations, but that got lost last season while he dealt with Emily and April. Let’s give him some challenging new patients to treat! Or an administrative issue to overcome! Or where’s another panda?

And please, let’s leave Emily—and Bernie—out of the picture this season. They need to live their own lives, and they took up too much of Choi’s screen time.
