Chicago Med alum Garcelle Beauvais is moving into reality TV, becoming part of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills season 10 cast.

There’s now a connection between Chicago Med and The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

Garcelle Beauvais, who played Lyla Dempsey on Chicago Med, has signed up to star in The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills season 10.

The Bravo series doesn’t have a season premiere date yet, but finished its ninth season in July, so it likely won’t start up again until very late in 2019 or even 2020.

It’s also one of the biggest reality TV properties on the air. Beverly Hills is the sixth show in the Real Housewives franchise and one of its most popular. The current stars include fellow actresses Lisa Rinna and Denise Richards.

The addition of Garcelle Beauvais is doubly interesting, because the Haitian actress is the first woman of color to join the Real Housewives franchise as a main cast member.

Beauvais portrayed Lyla, the new girlfriend of Sharon Goodwin’s (S. Epatha Merkerson) ex-husband Bert, in two Chicago Med episodes. In her last appearance, season 3’s “Over Troubled Water,” she was revealed to be terminally ill.

Despite Sharon’s feelings toward her ex-husband for walking out on her, she nonetheless did her best to help Lyla—and warmed to the other woman over the course of the story arc. It featured great performances by both Merkerson and Beauvais, and had aftereffects later in the third season.

Lyla’s eventual death, which happened off-screen, subsequently drove Bert to attempt suicide in his last appearance in “The Tipping Point.”

Though Sharon was there to try and help him through his grief and tried to get him to pull his life back together, Bert wasn’t seen at all during season 4, and it seems like his part in the show has been wrapped up for now.

Aside from Chicago Med, One Chicago fans will recognize Garcelle Beauvais from her roles on a number of TV shows, including Freeform’s Siren (where she recurred in season 2 as Susan Bishop), and SyFy‘s The Magicians (as Our Lady Underground).

The move to a reality show is surprising, but it’s something she’s already excited about—and creates a link between one of reality TV’s most popular franchises and one of scripted TV’s most successful ones.

“I am excited and proud to be joining the cast of such a wildly popular and beloved show like The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” Beauvais said in Bravo’s official casting announcement. “As a working actor who has been in the industry for some time, it’s exhilarating to have the opportunity to delve into a new chapter in the entertainment spectrum.”
