Chicago Med season 5 character preview: April Sexton
What should happen
What’s best for April Sexton in Chicago Med season 5 probably isn’t what April, or many fans, are hoping for. As much as she’ll be an awesome mother someday, it’s not good for the show to have her become pregnant again. Number one, the writers really don’t know how to write for kids (see: Owen Manning, who’s been largely MIA since he was born).
Number two, why does the Chexton relationship need to move that fast? The two of them just got back together; there’s nothing wrong with just letting them be together and be happy for a while. The writers don’t have to take them to another level to keep it interesting. They already are worth watching.
Remember that rank disparity that April originally expressed concerns about when they originally got together? That’s still an issue, and Chicago Med hasn’t dug into it too much, aside from a few mentions. That can still be explored, and it should if they’re going to make a deeper commitment to each other this time around. Why not build up the pairing before talking about kids or anything else?
Plus, April needs some time with her brother Noah. Roland Buck III was largely absent from the series last season, and as we got more April and Choi, we got less April and Noah. He used to be such a huge part of her life, with April doing just about anything for him. That relationship needs more screen time, too.
