Chicago PD season 6 DVD review
The Chicago PD season 6 DVD set has been released by Universal Pictures Home Entertainment. Here’s our review with details, special features and specs.
With two weeks to go before the new One Chicago season, Universal has finally finished rolling out last season and released Chicago PD season 6 on DVD. So should you add this set to your One Chicago collection?
The release is six discs, just like Chicago Fire, and contains all 22 episodes from the season that ended in May. This season will go down in One Chicago history as the last to feature Jon Seda as Antonio Dawson; he won’t be returning this fall (here’s why).
But that’s one of just a few reasons why season 6 may not be people’s favorite.
In addition to Antonio’s downward slide, this season includes Burzek fans being surprised when Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) falls in love with Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) instead, and even suggests they move in together.

Meanwhile, Chicago PD reveals yet more police corruption—this time coming right from the top as Superintendent Brian Kelton (a perfectly scene-chewing John C. McGinley) will do anything possible to become Mayor.
It’s a season with a lot of drama, but oftentimes that drama doesn’t feel like it meshes with the characters established over the previous five seasons.

A strong point, though, are the guest stars including McGinley, a returning Wendell Pierce (Alderman Ray Price), and Milauna Jemai Jackson (Animal Kingdom). Performances are always good, even if the plot isn’t at its best.
Technically speaking, the episodes are presented just a notch down from what you saw on TV. They’re shown in 1:78:1 widescreen, which is high-definition (though not quite as crisp as the broadcast HD).
Audio-wise, the set offers up a Dolby Digital 5.1 audio track, which is useful on a show where dialogue can sometimes get lost in the shuffle. English subtitles are included for those who are hard of hearing, or hearing-impaired.
If English is not your primary language, though, you’ll have a much harder time with this Chicago PD DVD release. The only non-English language included is French, and that’s just subtitles. There are no foreign audio tracks, and no other subtitles present…which seems a bit odd for a show that is syndicated on multiple networks and thus is reaching a broader audience.
That’s not the only hiccup: there are no special features for Chicago PD this season, either. Just as with the other One Chicago releases this year, all that’s included on this set are the crossover episodes from Chicago Fire and Chicago Med, which is great if you don’t watch those two shows and want the full crossovers anyway.
But there’s nothing unique to this DVD set that wasn’t seen on TV. Not even deleted scenes, which is also strange, since a whole plethora of them have been released by NBC online over the last few months.
If you want a physical copy of the season in case your streaming options stop working, then this is worth an add (it’s currently on Amazon for $20.00). But if you don’t need a DVD (there is no Blu-Ray), then you can likely skip this release and wait for the new season to start on Sept. 25.
