Chicago Med season 5 character preview: Will Halstead

What will happen

The Chicago Med writers have carved out a certain path for Will, and a lot of it revolves around Natalie. If he’s not with Natalie, he’s pining over Natalie. And since we know he won’t be getting back together with her right away, expect him to do a lot of angsting over the first few episodes and still being suspicious of Phillip.

Since so many of Will’s storylines have been alongside Natalie, and she obviously can’t practice medicine after the accident, he’ll have to find someone else to work with. Maybe he’ll wind up paired with the new trauma surgeon that audiences will meet in the season premiere. After all, some of the great parts of the first season were the push-pull between Will and Connor, and the new guy sounds a lot like Connor’s replacement

It’s unlikely that Will’s going to find a social life outside of the hospital. The writers have too much drama to mine with his once again unrequited love for Natalie, and the potential of another face-off between him and Phillip. So expect that a lot of his scenes will be focused on his work, which is probably not a bad thing since he’ll be happy to be focusing strictly on medicine.

There should be some scenes between Will and Jay in the upcoming crossover because of what the story is (see crossover spoilers here). The Halstead brothers working together is always a big plus, so at least we have that to look forward to.
