In this article, we’re profiling Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati).

Where we left off

Kim Burgess came into her own on Chicago PD’s sixth season. There were a lot of changes happening within the 21st District, and while the old Kim Burgess may have been a bit hesitant, this newly confident Kim took them head on. The beginning of season 6 saw her deal with the loss of her old partner, Alvin Olinsky (Elias Koteas), and being subsequently paired with Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda).

Despite that confidence boost, Burgess took a back seat this season when it came to the size of her role in investigations. While seasons past gave her at least two episodes a season that focused on her, seasons 5 and 6 only gave her one apiece (“The Thing About Heroes” and “Ties That Bind”, respectively). And the latter was almost more about her finding out that her ex-fiance was dating someone else.

Viewers got to see Burgess assist in the personal lives of her colleagues instead. She was there for Antonio when he was struggling with his addiction to prescription painkillers, and she provided help to both Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) and her former partner Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins).

Kim then had a brief romance with Blair Williams (recurring guest star Charles Michael Davis), but it came to a tragic end when he was found murdered in “What Could Have Been.”

Last but not least, Kim was one of the three Intelligence members called to the scene of Brian Kelton’s (recurring guest star John C. McGinley) murder. Along with Halstead and Atwater, Burgess was last seen standing over the body and surveying the crime scene. How big of a role she’ll play in the investigation into Kelton’s murder remains to be seen.
