What should happen

What would be great to see in Chicago PD season 7 is wisdom from Platt shared amongst more than just the usual suspects. With Upton and Burgess, she can connect more easily to them because she’s been where they are, but what about the guys? That’s disappeared from the show.

Platt used to talk to Olinsky before his death, and even joke around with Ruzek every once in a while. Even Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) could use a bit of Trudy Platt advice in his life, considering how confused he’s been sometime. Trudy used to have episodic interactions with all the characters when they would come past her desk on their way up the stairs, but those scenes have been fewer and farther between. Chicago PD needs to give Platt more screen time somehow.

Something else that viewers could use is a little bit more of? Platt’s life outside of the job. We know her past as a police officer, and how she came to sit behind the desk at 21. But what about her marriage to Randall “Mouch” McHolland (Christian Stolte)? The last time we saw Mouch and Platt together was in Chicago PD’s 100th episode “Profiles” which was back in season 5.

If Chicago PD can’t borrow Mouch for an episode, perhaps Platt could drop by the firehouse on Chicago Fire like she used to? Platt has been mentioned on Fire but they deserve to be seen together, even if it’s just a scene or two that reminds us how awesome they are. There’s no reason they can’t be as fun as any of the featured couples in the One Chicago universe.

If Platt must be kept at the district to move her storyline along, then the least Chicago PD could do is give her character a star-worthy plot. It doesn’t necessarily have to be something grim (god knows Platt’s had enough tragedy to last a lifetime), but something positive could still carry enough weight. Maybe she get an commendation? Or perhaps presents one to Burgess?

There’s always the possibility of Platt connecting with incoming character Vanessa Rojas (Lisseth Chavez). We saw a subplot with Platt and Upton when Hailey first arrived in season 4, and it came out that the two had run into each other before. Seeing Platt interacting with another fresh face, or maybe even taking that new arrival under her wing the way she did with Burgess, would be new angles to take with her character’s journey.
