Chicago PD season 7 character preview: Trudy Platt
By Kari Highman
What will happen
There hasn’t been a lot of talk about Trudy Platt going into Chicago PD season 7, but that doesn’t mean she won’t be used. In the season 6 finale “Reckoning” Trudy was a wealth of information for Ruzek about his case with Internal Affairs. She should still continue to try and help him in the season premiere, which is obviously picking up not long after that finale.
Platt has pulled strings to help her fellow main characters out of trouble before (again, see “Ride Along”), and Ruzek can’t spend too long behind bars or Patrick John Flueger wouldn’t be doing much on the show. It’s entirely possible that Platt reaches back into her seemingly endless list of contacts and does something to help spring Adam within an episode or two.

Her psuedo-motherly role would be especially helpful in other scenes during the season premiere, due to how broken the Intelligence Unit seems to be. Voight is missing in action, Halstead and Upton’s partnership is somewhat up in the air, and Antonio’s whereabouts are also vague. None of this is exactly a recipe for success. Platt normally pops up when the whole team is threatened, and this is one of those situations.
Past that, it’s hard to see how Chicago PD will improve her screen time, even though it ought to be a priority for the show. We also discussed this last season, but with every other character upstairs, Platt is the odd woman out. 90 percent of the show takes place without her. Unless a plot is written specifically for her, the writers have a challenge in front of them. Do they make an effort to include those scenes in the district lobby just to keep Platt involved? Or will this be another season where she’s not nearly around as much as she ought to be?
