Chicago Med season 5 premiere preview: Never Going Back To Normal
What should fans watch for in the Chicago Med premiere? Get ready for Never Going Back To Normal with our Chicago Med season 5, episode 1 preview.
Tonight’s Chicago Med premiere will be an episode that provokes strong reactions amongst One Chicago fans. Some will love it, others won’t like it, and everyone will know that this is an episode that changes the show.
The biggest talking point is, obviously, what happens to Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto). Her fate was spoiled by producers earlier this month, but for people who haven’t read the spoilers or don’t like to, it’s not a shocker to expect something big.
After all, Natalie was in a car accident—it’d be shocking if something didn’t happen to her.
The need to resolve that cliffhanger confirms that “Never Going Back To Normal” takes place, at least initially, right after last season’s finale.

It could all unfold right then, or there could be a time jump later in the episode. Fans likely recall the season 3 premiere when Dr. Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt) had been shot, and while the start of the episode showed the immediate aftermath, quickly things skipped ahead to a few months later.
Either way, it’ll be an interesting episode for fans of Manstead, because Natalie’s health is an issue and so is her boyfriend Phillip Davis (returning guest star Ian Harding), who just keeps getting weirder and weirder.
What is going on with him, and does anyone else feel like we missed something with him earlier?

Speaking of people who aren’t what they appear to be, the Chicago Med premiere is also the end of the line for Dr. Connor Rhodes (Colin Donnell) after he was put through the wringer all of last season by his ex-girlfriend. Fans already know that this will be Donnell’s final episode.
That’s a tough pill to swallow. Even though Colin is doing very well—he’s currently starring in a new musical—he was a huge part of why this show worked. Connor was a fan favorite, and so viewers will be looking for him to get a great sendoff.
There are still questions about his father’s death, and hopefully the writers don’t get so caught up in other things like introducing a new character that they forget about giving Connor a good and substantive exit.
Plus, there’s a possible pregnancy and a cancer scare. Chicago Med season 5 has a lot to resolve and only 42 minutes to do it; it feels like something won’t quite fit in, but we’ll have to wait and see what happens. Big changes are on the horizon, and not just for now; these could be things that permanently alter the show. Get your popcorn and get ready.
