Chicago Med’s staff fought to save lives sans light in We’re Lost in the Dark. Find out what happened in our Chicago Med season 5, episode 2 recap.

This week’s Chicago Med had everyone’s favorite doctors and nurses scrambling to help their patients when the hospital’s power goes out.

Wednesday’s installment, “We’re Lost in the Dark,” gave fans a lot of heart-pounding drama, intense revelations, and a few missteps along the way.

Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto) was back to work, but her first day was anything but smooth sailing. As for her ex-fiancé Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss)? He was back too, and had one heck of a case to solve, with the help of Dr. Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt), and Maggie Lockwood (Marlyne Barrett).

Maggie, Will, and Daniel

Chicago Med‘s episode began in the thick of things, as they showed Maggie going through a round of chemotherapy. Even though her doctor knew of Med’s vast treatment options, Maggie insisted on doing her treatments far away from Med to keep her personal and professional lives separate.

Upon arriving at work, we saw her assist Will Halstead and Daniel Charles in an unusual case. A young girl came into the hospital after having a seizure at school. She thought it was from a gas leak, and her two friends agreed. They simply wanted her to “get some medicine” so she could play in their soccer tournament later that day, but Will wasn’t so sure of that idea.

As he investigated, he was unable to determine the cause of the seizure. The power being out didn’t help matters either, as Will did not get a chance to run the girl’s labs. A little while later, both of the girl’s friends had seizures themselves, which caused Dr. Charles to wonder if there was another cause other than Will’s original thought of an outbreak.

He asked Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) if he could evaluate the girls, and when she agreed to give him 30 minutes, Dr. Charles gave them two orange pills to take. Once the three girls took the pills, all they could do was wait.

Miraculously, the girls’ symptoms stopped, and they were back to studying and preparing for their game in no time at all. Apparently Dr. Charles was right in his assumption of stress. He explained that stress could often manifest itself in physical symptoms, as he told Will how amazing the brain is at getting us to forget the things we don’t want to feel.

Yeah, Will knows how that goes, as earlier in the episode he saw that Natalie received flowers from Phillip Davis (Ian Harding). The gesture brought an immediate frown to Will’s face; which he remembered thanks to Dr. Charles’ words.
