What’s next for Burzek in Chicago PD season 7?
By Kari Highman
Chicago PD’s Ruzek and Burgess seemed to rekindle their relationship during the One Chicago crossover, so will Chicago PD season 7 reignite Burzek?
Burzek fans finally got the Chicago PD moment they’ve been waiting for during the One Chicago crossover.
SPOILER ALERT: This article contains spoilers from Wednesday’s episode of Chicago PD.
Viewers have been asking for almost two seasons if Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) and Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) will get back together. At the end of Wednesday’s “Infection” event, they finally did—but just for one night.
Burgess and Ruzek shared a moment as the rest of the Intelligence Unit headed out for drinks after the viral crisis had been averted. While Vanessa Rojas (Lisseth Chavez) and Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) headed for Molly’s, Adam asked Kim if she’d go home with him instead.

The two shared several seconds of an intense glance, before Burgess made shipper fans’ hearts leap with one simple word: “Yeah.”
As if that wasn’t enough of a hint, Chicago PD made sure we saw them holding hands as they headed off into the night to presumably spend it together.
So does that scene prove that Burzek is once again canon?

“We’re going to explore something,” Squerciati told One Chicago Center during the recent One Chicago Day press event. “We’re actually not sure what happens. We don’t know where it’s going, but I think that there’s something very interesting happening with Burzek.”
“If that’s what you want,” added Flueger, “you’re not going to be disappointed.”
The scene in “Infection” certainly looks like good news for Burzek shippers, who have been upset ever since season 5 teased them getting back together only for Ruzek to start a relationship with Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) last season.
But that’s exactly why Chicago PD fans should still be skeptical. That season 5 tease was exactly the same as what happened this week: Burgess and Ruzek left together for a one-night stand, but it was Kim propositioning Adam instead of the other way around.
And then nothing ever came of it, with both of them getting new love interests instead. So will it be different in season 7?
There’s one encouraging sign, as Squerciati also told TVLine there’s a Burzek-related development in Episode 8, which would be about a month from now.
The Chicago PD writers are certainly making shippers wait to see if “Infection” leads to more than another fling for the former fiancees. But that’s what they’ve been doing for years; they know that Ruzek and Burgess are still on fans’ minds, and they’ve played into that before. Even when Ruzek was with Upton last season, most of the drama there was about how Burgess would react.
Considering they’ve been waiting since season 5 for anything, it’s safe to say Burzek fans are reveling in the One Chicago crossover’s big moment for their favorite couple. Here’s hoping things work out this time around, and Burgess and Ruzek find their way back to each other. If that’s not the case, Chicago PD fans might be even more upset in season 7.
