What should fans watch for in tonight’s Chicago Fire? Get ready for What Went Wrong with our Chicago Fire season 8, episode 6 preview.

The next Chicago Fire episode will be joyous for some characters, and terrible for others—so One Chicago fans’ enjoyment might depend on which characters you love most.

Tonight’s episode “What Went Wrong” brings good news for Joe Cruz (Joe Minoso). He gets to tell the rest of Firehouse 51 that he’s engaged to Chloe (recurring guest star Kristen Gutoskie) after all and there will presumably be celebrating.

It’s also going to be good for Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo), who returns from the firefighter conference she attended last week, and will get to reveal how she impressed fellow firefighters from all over the place.

That has to be a confidence booster for Stella, not to mention a nice feather in the cap for the firehouse, especially when they’ve had their share of negative PR over the last few seasons.

But when an episode is called “What Went Wrong,” that means something is going to be terrible for somebody—perhaps several somebodies. But it’s primarily not a good week for Blake Gallo (returning guest star Alberto Rosende).

Judging from the promo, which you can watch below, Gallo makes the rookie mistake that Chief Wallace Boden (Eamonn Walker) was afraid he’d make when he was originally brought aboard.

So how bad is the screw-up going to be?

While this is a rough episode for Gallo, it’s actually good as far as his long-term development goes. He’s a rookie at a top firehouse; he should be screwing up. It’s not realistic if he gets everything right, nor is it interesting for fans to watch if he’s perfect.

One only needs to look over to Chicago PD, where fellow rookie Vanessa Rojas seems to be getting all the answers. Gallo’s arc is more interesting because he’s helping, but he’s not the one who’s always in the right place at the right time, and he’s allowed to be flawed. Hopefully whatever happens here isn’t irreparable, but it’s more fun to see him grow than to see him be put into situations where the writers are showing us that we should like him.

We’ll like him more if we come to that conclusion on our own, rather than being nudged into it by the show making him look good. “What Went Wrong” seems like a great opportunity to flesh him out, and let’s hope he doesn’t take too hard of a fall.

Maybe Ritter (Daniel Kyri) can help him out? After all, last season Ritter was the new guy, and we can also use more of Ritter!
