Chicago PD season 7, episode 7 preview: Informant
What should fans watch for in tonight’s Chicago PD? Get ready for Informant with our Chicago PD season 7, episode 7 preview.
The next Chicago PD should give One Chicago fans valuable answers about season 7’s overall storyline—so what will it ultimately have in store?
“Informant” circles back to Darius Walker (Michael Beach), who was introduced in the season’s second episode “Assets.”
Darius got off the hook for his crimes then after Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) suggested using him as an informant, but the topic wasn’t revisited for the last month-plus. Now, it seems viewers will finally get an idea of what this storyline is supposed to be.
It felt pretty ridiculous at the time to see Voight advocating on behalf of the known criminal, so this episode is important, because the audience has to see that Darius Walker provides enough of a boost to Intelligence that the arrangement makes sense.

Otherwise, this story arc is going to seem implausible, and since this seems like it’s going to be a through-line throughout Chicago PD season 7, that would be terrible not just for this episode but for the entire season.

There’s another question mark here, too: the story brings back interim Superintendent Jason Crawford (Paul Adelstein), who last week had all the fortitude of a wet blanket.
Crawford could have been an ally to Intelligence, but instead he’s come across as another boss figure who is more worried about his own career and image than anything else—and who needed Voight to bail him out last week. Not only is he not likeable, but we really don’t have any idea who he is or what he actually stands for.
Will Crawford be trying to cover his behind again this week? Will Walker be more trouble than he’s worth? There’s also no reason both those things couldn’t be true. Depending on how dramatic the writers want to go, this Chicago PD episode could turn into an absolute mess.
Whatever happens, it’s going to be a clear indicator of what concept they have in mind for this season, so One Chicago fans will want to pay close attention. The show has gone through a lot of change over the last two seasons, and “Informant” will make clear what its priorities (and its tone) are this season.
