Chicago Fire had several different arguments going in Welcome To Crazytown. Find out what happened in our Chicago Fire season 8, episode 7 recap.

This week’s Chicago Fire was full of people arguing, and some arguments were worse than others.

Wednesday’s episode “Welcome to Crazytown” saw Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) get an offer to join the Office of Fire Investigation, then realize that it wasn’t really an offer so much as an order.

Meanwhile, Christopher Herrmann (David Eigenberg) and Joe Cruz (Joe Minoso) saw their tempers get the better of them when other people got in their way.

Expecting the unexpected

Chicago Fire opens with Cruz gleefully announcing that the Slamigan has its own booth at an upcoming firefighting expo. It also gives us an update on Isaac, the kid from the episode “Badlands”, who’s getting released ahead of schedule. Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer) clarifies very quickly to Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer) that she wasn’t dating Ryan the social worker, so Brett and Casey are clearly still a potential thing.

Severide finds out that OFI is sending over someone new (so, not Van Meter) to talk to him, but the conversation will have to wait, as the emergency call of the week comes in. “Welcome to Crazytown,” the cop on the scene says casually, as this is a hostage situation with the suspect on some kind of drugs.

Our heroes start trying to help the cops, like Casey escorting the hostage’s kids into the safe custody of the paramedics. But the title of this show is Chicago Fire, so it’s no surprise that the cops aren’t that great at their jobs. The SWAT team moves in, and their tear gas shells accidentally start a fire.

Oh, and Herrmann gets physical with a patrol cop who won’t move his squad car out of the way of the fire engine. So this is just a bang-up job all the way around.

Casey and Severide rappel down the side of the building and rescue the hostage while the suspect is still distracted by the SWAT team. When he realizes what’s going on, Herrmann hits the guy with the nearest water cannon to keep him from shooting at Severide and Casey. Well, that’s one way to solve a problem!
