Chicago Justice’s Carl Weathers in Star Wars series The Mandalorian
The Mandalorian brings Chicago Justice alum Carl Weathers into the Star Wars universe. Watch the trailer and get details on the Disney Plus series.
If you’re one of the many people who are streaming The Mandalorian on Disney Plus today, you’ll quickly discover a Chicago Justice connection.
Carl Weathers features in the new Star Wars series as Greef Targa, the leader of an organization of galactic bounty hunters who hires the title character (played by Pedro Pascal, Game of Thrones) to find him something valuable.
It’s another leadership role for the iconic actor, whom One Chicago viewers will remember from his role as State’s Attorney Mark Jefferies on Chicago Justice.
Weathers also briefly reprised the role in an episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, in which Jefferies’ former right-hand man Peter Stone (Philip Winchester) came to him for help with a case regarding immigration.
This is a completely different kind of character, though—Star Wars is one of the most massive universes in TV and film, and the sci-fi genre is worlds away from sitting behind a desk in a legal drama.
It’s also the actor’s second recent Disney project; he was part of Toy Story 4 this spring.
Whether or not you like Star Wars, you might want to give The Mandalorian a watch. Weathers is one of those actors who’s watchable in just about anything, and the series has the kind of talent behind it you’d expect for a big-name project.
Six of the season’s eight episodes were written by Jon Favreau (Iron Man), and the cast also includes Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul), Nick Nolte, and Ming-Na Wen (Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD).
