Will and Elsa

Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) and Elsa (Molly Bernard) treat Lori, who collapsed on her morning run less than two months after a kidney transplant. Will is concerned that she has an infection in her lungs, which is apparently a common post-operative complication. But of course, the truth is a lot less common.

After Lori gets worse, Will easily finds a clot that’s blocking the flow of blood to her kidney. But Lori is allergic to the contrast dye that’s needed for the CT scan that will help them find the clot. The only alternative is to wait and see if the clot resolves on its own, which doesn’t sound like much of a Plan B.

When that doesn’t work, Lori asks Will to suppress her allergies so that they can get the clot out, because she doesn’t want her new kidney to fail. Her parents reluctantly consent, but Elsa makes her objection known and is proven right when Lori has an allergic reaction inside the CT scan machine. Luckily, they’re still able to get the scan done and the resulting surgery goes off without a hitch.

This is also an excuse for Chicago Med to put Will and Elsa back together after their own random flirtation at the party; she awkwardly tries to ask him to a concert, and he thinks she’s just asking if she can go herself. Later, Elsa apologizes for doubting Will, and tries to ask him out again. But apparently, Will’s dating one of the new paramedics. Well, that came out of left field.
