What will happen in the Chicago Fire midseason finale? Here are our predictions for Chicago Fire season 8 ahead of the fall finale.

The Chicago Fire midseason finale airs this Wednesday, so it’s time to predict where the series will leave One Chicago fans. Every finale within the One Chicago franchise has plot twists, cliffhangers, or some other surprise that leaves us wanting more, so this year’s installment will be no exception.

Will Captain Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer) get his second chance with Gabriela Dawson (Monica Raymund)? Or will it go up in smoke?

On the professional side of things, how long will Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) last in the Office of Fire Investigation? And what about Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo): is she taking on too much, too fast? Here’s what we think will happen on Chicago Fire.

Dawson’s return will be good for Casey, but how?

Yes, it’s true: Gabby Dawson is returning for a guest appearance in the Chicago Fire midseason finale. The fan favorite paramedic takes Firehouse 51 by surprise with her return, especially her ex-husband, Matthew Casey.

Dawsey fans were left heartbroken over the demise of the resident golden couple after last season’s premiere, so will Dawson’s return mean an opportunity rekindling their romance? If the photo above gives us anything, it’s that the former flames certainly don’t seem angry to see each other. They look positively radiant, and it’s refreshing to see Matt happy.

While Dawson has a work-related reason to drop by Firehouse 51, it doesn’t mean her intentions weren’t personal. She asks Casey if he would like to be a part of a fundraiser she’s hosting, and while the midseason ender’s promo doesn’t reveal his answer, it does show something else that’s interesting.

The promo for “Best Friend Magic” reveals Casey also weighing his options with Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer). The two have been confidants to each other since last season, as Dawson’s departure blindsided both of them. Brett tells Casey that he should go to the fundraiser, saying that he’d regret it if he didn’t at least give it a chance.

Based on Casey’s previous, not to mention brief, romantic blunders over the past year, it’s unclear whether or not Dawson’s return will be a good or bad thing for him. On the one hand, it could go smoothly and the two could actually manifest a friendship or renewed romantic connection. It would certainly warm Dawsey hearts to see the couple back together, even if it’s only for an episode.

On the other hand, it could be a total disaster and send Casey’s romantic actions into further reckless abandon He hasn’t had the best track record lately when it comes to women. There was his short-lived romance with reporter Naomi Graham (Kate Villanova) in season 7, and his even shorter-lived one-night stand with a tech rep in “Badlands.” Casey’s turned into Severide circa Chicago Fire season 1 in the romance department, which isn’t necessarily a good thing for the usually all-together captain.

No matter the outcome, Dawson’s appearance will no doubt have an effect on Casey. The two definitely have some catching up to do, and so we expect that they will at least end on amicable terms, if nothing else. They’re too good of people to do otherwise.
