The Chicago Fire midseason finale is bringing back a fan favorite, according to NBC‘s official description of the episode and the promo that they’ve released for it.
Wednesday’s episode, entitled “Best Friend Magic,” sees former series regular Monica Raymund return as Gabriela Dawson for the first time since the Chicago Fire season 7 premiere. Dawson is back in Chicago working on a fundraiser, as she continues to help recovery efforts in Puerto Rico, and hopes her ex-colleagues at Firehouse 51 can help.
Of course, that brings her back into the orbit of her ex-husband Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer), and her former partner Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer), who’s since developed feelings for Casey. That won’t be awkward at all. And how will Dawson’s return affect the rest of the firehouse? She was their friend and colleague too, not just Casey’s ex-wife.
And with as big a role as she played on the show for six seasons, this isn’t just any garden variety guest appearance. This is huge, and it will be emotional for Chicago Fire characters and fans alike.
Plus, there’s more trouble for Stellaride on the horizon, so could the show’s new “it couple” hit the rocks at the same time that the previous one comes back together? That would be very ironic.
