Chicago Med midseason finale recap: I Can’t Imagine The Future
Natalie
Natalie finds out that she and faux-fiance Phillip Davis are about to be on a renewed collision course, because his daughter Sophie is returning to Chicago Med for another surgical procedure. She claims it doesn’t matter, but it totally does. As she comes back to the NICU it starts to jog her memory about last season’s finale.
She’s surprised to find that Sophie is being attended by Phillip’s sister and her husband, the latter of whom calls him “a pathological liar.” He hasn’t shown up at the hospital and they’re convinced he’s abandoned his daughter. Their plan is to adopt Sophie themselves.
And hey, to make things more awkward, it’s the return of Dr. Maya Frisch (Emma Duncan, Chicago Justice), who tells everyone Phillip ordered a DNR for his daughter. She won’t perform the surgery unless the order is rescinded. Phillip’s sister says her brother has no use for the baby anymore, as he was only doting on her to win Natalie over. Yep, we’ve got another sociopath-esque storyline on her hands!
Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) refuses to make any moves, but then Dr. Isidore Latham (Ato Essandoh) pops up again to remind us that Dr. Connor Rhodes isn’t here anymore. Connor would be proud because Latham’s stepping in to do the surgery, DNR be damned. Everything goes reasonably well on the operating table, and then Natalie has another flashback when she goes to check on Sophie afterward.
She remembers Agent Lee (Anna Enger Ritch) telling her to take Will back. “I have been so unfair to Will,” Natalie blurts to a confused Elsa Curry (Molly Bernard), who likely doesn’t want to hear it given her own crush on Dr. Halstead. She finds Will on the roof and tells him she has her memory back, and knows she was coming to apologize to him. Not only that, but she was coming to tell him she loved him and wanted him back.
Unfortunately, Will stops her there. He also points out that she told him to get out of her life a few episodes ago, and he’s fine now without her. “We aren’t good for one another,” he tells her. “All we do is hurt each other.” He tells her that he feels free, and walks away leaving her to sob all over again.
