More from One Chicago Center

Chicago PD season 7 has been another season where Platt has been mostly invisible. She hasn’t had a feature episode or even a significant storyline in the first nine episodes.

We did get a scene between Platt and Mouch (Christian Stolte) in the “Infection” crossover, and a scene where we learned Platt does work in the community when she’s not at the district. But that’s the most we’ve seen of her outside of the usual bringing up a file or passing on some instructions.

We’re usually lucky if she appears in more than one scene in a given episode.

What it means

We can’t say anything here that we didn’t already say last season. Platt is incredibly underused, to the point where it’s kind of baffling that she’s still a main character when she gets less to do than many guest characters. If Amy Morton is going to be a series regular, she deserves to have decent screen time in each episode.

Granted, it’s harder to do when she’s the only character who isn’t working upstairs in the Intelligence Unit. But that isn’t new; it’s been the case since season 5, so the producers should be aware of that by now. They need to figure out a solution for the issue, because Amy Morton is too talented to be making what amount to essentially cameos

What’s next

With nothing big having happened for Platt so far this season, it’s impossible to guess where she may go, if she goes anywhere at all. Hopefully she’ll get a feature episode somewhere in there, and one that doesn’t involve her being beaten up, nearly blown up or otherwise harmed.

Especially with the Intelligence Unit getting younger, this should be an opportunity to use Platt more and have her dispense more advice, the way she did to Vanessa Rojas (Lisseth Chavez) on her first day,  because they’re going to need it.
