What’s happened so far

This Chicago PD season started out relatively slow for Burgess, with her playing a supporting role in many episodes as Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) had some big storylines and then the writers introduced new Intelligence Unit member Vanessa Rojas (Lisseth Chavez).

Things began to turn at the end of the One Chicago crossover, “Infection,” as the show finally acted on the Burzek teases it had set up in the past. With Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) now single again after breaking up with Upton, he celebrated stopping a fatal bacteria by propositioning Kim. The two went home together, and fans found out that it wasn’t a one-night stand this time; they had rekindled their romantic relationship.

Burgess got her first—and so far only—feature episode this season with “No Regrets.” She found out that she was pregnant with Adam’s baby! Though Burgess originally made an appointment to abort the unborn child, she changed her mind after taking the lead on a complicated case involving a man who had fathered a son with the woman he abducted. Burgess saved the kid’s life, and that made her reconsider wanting to be a mother.

As of the fall finale, she had yet to make any decision, and she and Ruzek are still a couple, with Adam telling Kim that he’ll support her unconditionally. But what will she do in the remaining part of this season? And will she get more to do in upcoming episodes?
