What it means

We’ve seen a lot of April this season; in fact, you can even make the argument that she’s replaced Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto) as the female lead, as both she and the Chexton relationship have been two of the biggest parts of Chicago Med season 5.

Professionally, it made sense that April would fill the void left by Maggie not being able to fulfill all of her duties. That was interesting, especially seeing her in the hybrid OR, which was a completely new environment for April to be in. And she had her fair share of case drama, including one where Choi had to get a court order to keep the U.S. military from taking one of their patients!

Personally, however, she wasn’t written as well. The idea of Chexton having a baby together was a little fast, considering they’d just gotten back together after being broken up for most of season 4. But you could call that dramatic license, because it was a workable plot. Choi wanting to have a baby, and April not being comfortable with it because of her past miscarriage or just thinking it’s too fast—there’s a whole compelling story right there.

Adding Crockett into the mix and creating a love triangle was just over the top. Firstly, Chicago Med has had enough love triangles already. For two, where did the interest come from? The two of them worked one complex case together and that was it? If it had been developed, it’d be more believable; instead this just felt like a cheap way to create drama for Chexton. Especially since it’s now made April a cheater. This is just going to be a headache for all involved.
