When Chicago Fire season 8 resumes, two characters won’t be getting along during the midseason premiere. Who are the unhappy parties? SPOILER ALERT!

Are you ready for the Chicago Fire season 8 midseason premiere? We’v’e got some scoop for you before the spring premiere airs in January.

SPOILER ALERT: This article contains spoilers for the next Chicago Fire season 8 episode.

NBC has released some official details for the Jan. 8 midseason opener, which is titled “Hold Our Ground.”

In that episode, two members of Firehouse 51 find themselves on opposite sides. And though the network isn’t saying specifically what drives them apart, they have publicly released which heroes will be fighting with each other.

They’re paramedics Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer) and Emily Foster (Annie Ilonzeh)!

More from Chicago Fire

We’ve seen Brett and Foster disagree with each other before, mostly in the early episodes of their partnership, when Sylvie wasn’t quite sure how Emily was doing things in the field (remember that emergency surgery last season). But they’ve generally been on the same page since, so it’ll be an interesting twist to see them disagree.

And how severely will they be at odds? There are levels of conflict; this could be something where they can’t agree on their case of the week and patch things up by the end of the episode. Or is this Chicago Fire trying to make us worry about their partnership in more of a big-picture sense?

Our first instinct is that this will be more of the former—after all, we saw at the beginning of Chicago Fire season 8 when Foster was saddled with a new partner how much she needs Brett. She was willing to go to Fowlerton to get Sylvie back! So given that, it’d be hard to see her get upset enough that she’d want another colleague.

She’s seen what happens when she gets stuck with another partner. And Brett has also had the revolving door of trying to find someone who fits after Gabriela Dawson (Monica Raymund) left. So it’s in both of their best interests to patch things up quickly. But that doesn’t mean they can’t get into a heated argument first!

How difficult do you think Brett and Foster’s fight will be? Leave your prediction for these spoilers in the comments, then find out what happens when Chicago Fire starts up again in January!
